BP

AP – BP’s much-criticized CEO Tony Hayward will be replaced by American Robert Dudley on Oct. 1, the company said Tuesday as it reported a record quarterly loss and set aside $32.2 billion to cover costs of the devastating Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

$32.2 billion sounds like a reasonable amount for cleanup and casualties.  A shame though that a $1/2 million valve could have prevented so much damage.  For as long as we insist on being dependent on fossil fuels – we as consumers must INSIST that every safety measure be taken – globally.  As a friend pointed out there are other spills continuing all over the world unchecked for decades and they don’t make the news because it didn’t happen in the US.

Time to step up, consumers!
